Mushroom Basket is the favorite tomato of my favorite sister. Mushroom Basket has consistently provided the largest tomatoes for me, every year since I first planted it, in 2016. I plant them every year to make sure my sister has some, bonus being I get a few giant tomatoes to show off!
All seeds grown in the high wind prairie, Midwest, in macro-climate zone 5(ish). Average dewpoint in summer is around 60. Soil is a loamy clay. Although my preference is organic, I have used commercial fertilizers from time to time. Growing days are approximately 135.
Flavor-wise, eh. I find the Mushroom Basket tomato bland. The tomatoes can be more hallow and good for stuffing, or meaty and great slicers. You just don’t know what you are gonna get sometimes. The flavor of the fruit is the only con. But it is a flavor favorite of my sister, so try it anyway. Different palates and all that.
Another great thing about the Mushroom Basket tomato is how early it is. The fruit is enormous and will also be one of the first ripe large tomatoes in your garden. And picturesque!
The seeds germinate easily. The plants get about 5′ tall. The plants are quite prolific for a plant that consistently pumps out monster tomatoes. The plants are strong and on the healthier side of tomato plants, generally one of the last plants to succumb to end of season diseases.
