Series – Future Self Journaling – 29F – Favorite Childhood Books.

I have begun purchasing some of the books I loved as a girl. The Black Pearl and Island of the Blue Dolphins, both written by Scott O’Dell. The Black Pearl sparked my obsession with the manta ray. My heavy bucket list includes a wish to harvest my own black pearl from the seas of French Polynesia, some day. I don’t see that happening, but I do own black pearls.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. I felt like the protagonist, a shy little bookworm. I lived at the local library. First thing I would always do when settling into the fiction reading nook is get to the rotating bookcase, then find and turn over that damn Jaws book, as that cover that scared me.

The Good Earth, (Pearl Buck) and Clan of the Cave Bear (Jane Auel), introduced me to other worlds and adult themes and content. Then The Handmaids Tale (Margaret Atwood) was a terrifying high school read. Yet engrossing, I read it fast and left wanting more, odd for a horror. Generally not my genre.

I miss losing myself in books.

I did spent 30 minutes on reddit reading a four part “true story” that likely wasn’t.

Damn reddit.

Challenge wise, I am doing good with the spouse attention. Make a point to sit with him on the couch when he gets home. I now automatically review reason to live healthy, every day. Today is grocery day so my healthy eating is low on the healthy and high and heavy on the eating. I did have a soup chock full of veggies. And had some juice. Otherwise I ate crap.

Grateful For:

-Taking the time to make Mulligatawny soup. I always forget how absolutely amazing this soup is. I go nuts with the veggies so it’s good with fiber and vitamins too.

-My kids getting spoiled with the gifts from a relative. Very unexpected.

-My sibling taking care of the parents gifts this year, I just chip in. It’s extra work for them, I appreciate the time and attention they spend doing the purchasing and shipping.

Godspeed Y’all!

The journaling is part of a 30 Day Challenge I started over a year ago. I consider that a component of the Future Self Journaling process. The gratefulness notes near the bottom of each self improvement post is also a specific and helpful part of Future Self Journaling.
