This scrumptious garlic noodle dish is impressive. It’s a quick whip-up that is first date worthy. You want the long ass story that has nothing to do with you being hungry?
Me neither.
Time: Noodle dish only, about 15-20 minutes from chop to serve.
Calories: LOL Approximately 675 Calories per serving IF serving for TWO. If you have more restraint than I do, the entire recipe is about 1350 calories. Divide as you wish.
Ingredients:
8 OZ Brown Rice Noodles
1/4 C Butter (salted)
1/3 C Green Onion – chopped
4 cloves Garlic – minced
1-2 T raw Pepper – fine dice. Use the level you like. Poblano-Mild or Serrano-Medium or Thai-HOT
3 T Coconut Sugar
2 T Tamari
1 t Oyster Sauce
Instructions:
Prep Sauce first so the noodles can go into it right away once the noodles are cooked
- Melt butter over medium-low heat in a medium to large sauté pan.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for a minute or two, until fragrant.
- Add the coconut sugar, tamari and oyster sauce. Then a single dash of salt. Stir to combine.
- Leave the mixture on low heat while the noodles cook. The noodles cook quickly.
Now the Noodles
- Prep rice noodles to directions listed on the package. Generally rice noodles are ready in five minutes or less once water is boiling.
- Once noodles are ready, drain and place noodles in the garlic butter sauce immediately.
- Mix gently with a bamboo utensil or rubber tongs. Serve warm.
Ok, What Else Do I Serve With These Amazing Noodles?
I roast broccoli and cauliflower with a bit of oil, salt and red pepper jelly and serve alongside.
I also serve this dish with pork chops, sliced in 1/4″ strips, tossed with oil, red pepper jelly, salt and Thai Peanut crust. Then grill the slices on medium heat for a few minutes each side.
Substitutions?
White rice noodles instead of brown rice? – YES
Brown Sugar instead of Coconut Sugar? – YES, reduce to 2 T
Can I omit the hot pepper? I just want Sticky Garlic Noods. – YES
Do I really need the oyster sauce? – I think so, but I’m not going to tell you you have to use it. It adds umami.
What about other type noodles? – I wasn’t a fan but honestly, I encourage you to try what your palate craves.
Can I use a regular white or yellow onion? I think not. Green onion has a brightness that really compliments the dish. But again…try it if you want.
Can I add more salt? – Taste first. Tamari, butter and oyster sauce already are quite salty.
Enjoy!
