What Can Be Harvested in Later September in Zone 4 and Zone 5?

I garden in the Midwest of the United States, 2012 USDA map zone 5. The microclimates in my sanctuary range from zone 4a-6a. My AHS Heat Zone is 2. My Koppen Climate Type is Dfa, Humid Continental. Actually, the most important information is as follows: My general soil type is the loamy side of clay. My average number of growing days is about 135, depending on the blessing of Mother Nature, of course.

The September Garden is a wild, messy garden, where brown and crisp creeps into the verdant lush garden of summer. The September garden is wildly inconsistent. In 2018, the first frost hit on September 29th, ending the season. In 2020, my garden was hit with an out-of-nowhere frost on far too early September 8th that required many blankets for two nights, saving the garden to carry on well into October. For 2021? The garden kept producing until the end of October. The September garden is full of surprises, and she means for you to check that forecast daily and be ready for anything.
