Dahlia Love – Labyrinth

2018 – Year One of Dahlias

This is my very favorite dahlia. It’s a spendier bulb, so I budgeted for one tuber. First year growing dahlias, so was a test year, so I purchased just a few test tubers. This dahlia was even prettier in real life than it was in the photos, which is hard to believe is even possible. The plant was tall, healthy, lush and gave me dahlias from it’s perch in a shadier spot, in July! Nothing negative to say about planting, growing and blooms of the Labyrinth. Until fall arrived.

Did the tuber survive to provide me a flower this year? Nope. I wanted to buy another tuber but at $20 for one tuber and a list of other dahlias I wanted to try? No can do. I think I dug up the tubers in the fall too soon. I got one tuber with an eye, but it was thin, and did not resemble the fat tuber I received initially. I planted it anyway, just in case, but it did not grow. Perhaps y’all will have better luck with this beauty!

The color differences have two explanations. I do not color correct photos, I only crop and rotate. My current camera hates orange and often over corrects too far towards cooler tones. Also, whether a photograph is taken in direct sun or shade impacts tone.
