The Carbon tomato plant is an early producer of 6-12 oz red tomatoes with a hint of purple. The flavor is rich and slightly smoky. A must grow for me every year.
All seeds grown in the high wind prairie, Midwest, in macro-climate zone 5(ish). Average dewpoint in summer is around 60. Soil is a loamy clay. Although my preference is organic, I have used commercial fertilizers from time to time. Growing Days approximately 135.
The flavor of the Carbon tomato is well balanced between sweet and acid, with an additional richness, is extraordinarily meaty and works well both as a fresh slicer and a canning tomato. It has small seed cavities and green tops typical of many heirlooms. I have never seen a mega-blossom on a Carbon, the shape is uniformly round. The seedlings emerged at the normal time, are healthy with notably purplish stems. The plants produce an average amount of fruit earlier than any other large red tomatoes! Disease resistance is average to good.
