Series – Future Self Journaling – 1B -Count Your Blessings

New Task, involving Excel spreadsheets. Sounds SO DANG EXCITING. Actually, for OCD (diagnosed, not hyperbole) list makers like myself, it is almost cheating. I tracked different aspect of my life by spreadsheet before and I already had a template I used before. Going into updating the spreadsheet, it hit me how much in all our lives has changed since I last adjusted the list over a year ago. Time-wise, I must now account for homeschooling, Instacart obsessing and walking our puppy. Chore wise, I now have “disinfect” as a prominent and important chore I hit daily. All doorknobs, light switches, faucets, cabinet handles…actually all of the handles…remotes and railings are wiped down (quickly) daily. I did that before, but not with this frequency or adherence.

I mentally chew on it a few more minutes and come up with a list of gratefuls that embarrass me. I know I am spoiled, acknowledge that I am spoiled and attempt to pay that forward in some way throughout my days. But wow.

Gratefuls:

  1. Thanks to The Sps (and my wisdom choosing him), I get to be a housewife and have a life I love. It is rare, perhaps a puppy appointment, that I ever need to leave the security, and now safety, of my house and yard.
  2. While I have maga neighbors who never wear masks, think COVID is a hoax ect, I don’t ever have to get close to them. I am grateful ALL my loved ones wear masks. I am grateful I don’t have to rip their heads off and shit down their throats for being a heartless COVID Mary. I am grateful, in the little circle of people I love, I don’t have to plead the case of masks on behalf of those who need protection. It’s the people who aren’t in my little circle that get the wrath. Never personally though.

Note…a year later I can update that the maga I referenced actually DID get Covid and one suffered from long Covid after a hospitalization.
  3. Money is tight, as it is for many, but not so tight that we have to access the vital services of a food bank. We do not need food stamps. We have two used cars, but we have TWO operating vehicles! We are wealthy, for real. I am in a position of gifting a blessing, instead of hoping for one, even though the gifts are not as frequent or as large as I wish. I doubt a blessing is ever small to the receiver.
  4. I do have distant relatives (haven’t seen in decades) who have suffered from and in one case, passed from COVID. But nobody in my little world has suffered from or died from COVID. Not because we are lucky, but because we are careful.

Note: A year later and my entire family is vaxx’d. No Covid for anyone unless it was asymptomatic. Our diligence has been successful so far. As of this note, It’s been one year and eight months since Covid arrived in the U.S. So far, so good. We are still being careful as Delta is no joke.

The list of Gratefuls is far longer than this.

Godspeed Y’all
