Series – Future Self Journal – 16 – ‘Ohana Means Family

…even when you are planning a holiday without them. My holiday table has more Thanksgiving cards than usual. Usually we reach out to each other through phone calls and texting, yet this year mailed cards are making a comeback. I like it.

Thanksgiving this year is just us with kiddos. No extended family. I scaled down both the menu and decorating. I even used mismatched plates, a different set for everyone. I will go all out for Christmas. It is against my religion to save things for “someday”. I use my fine china, including my china tea cups. I also burn candles I display and use my grandmother’s decades old tea towels and other vintage linens. Often.

I’m a monster.

This Thanksgiving was so chill. I did turkey parts instead of a whole turkey. I bought the pie crust instead of making it. While I think my pie crust is superior, I don’t enjoy making it. At all. So bought frozen and glad I did. So much time saved. Especially avoiding the clean-up from a flour-coated kitchen. On the other hand, I can not get even close to making a roll as delicious as the local grocery store makes them. I happily bought those too. Dinner was an hour later than initially planned, and nobody cared. I forgot to make an appetizer. Oh well. I had time to sit down for a bit while everything was in the oven, as I had already done what I could preparing the my favorite meal. I also had a load of prep dishes fully clean before it was even time to eat.

I want this every year!

Grateful for:

Being warm, loved and home.

Godspeed Y’all!
