Series – Future Self Journal – 12B – Covid Vaccine

I did not expect to burst into tears. I watch CNBC every morning, after 8AM, as Joe Kernan is unwatchable. from his old-man-yells-at-clouds perch from 5-8 AM. Jim Cramer is doing the usual yammering about something he has to backtrack later, and Quintanilla breaks into financial news coverage to broadcast the first American medical professional in New York getting the COVID vaccine. I shed all of the tears.

I saw the news items last week about the lovely lady from the UK who got the very first Covid vaccine worldwide. I thought it was great, but wasn’t emotional about it. I question my patriotism often, even though my veteran status generally protects me from the accusation. I am disappointed in my country, as how we care for the least among us is shameful. Yet seeing an American get the vaccine just hit me some type of way. A black woman, a brave woman, considering the quite valid overall vaccine hesitancy in the black community.

My current self and future self is happy!

As a solid introvert, who generally loves any excuse NOT to leave my grounds, my nest, I find myself tired, a bit trapped. I really did enjoy going out to a restaurant, with the unlimited pop and chips and salsa. Can’t get that with delivery. I don’t enjoy spending an afternoon shopping -I am an in-get it-and-out kind of girl- but I find myself missing the opportunity to stand in an aisle and hem and haw over all my choices for shampoo and napkins. They are likely glad to have me out of the store, as to choose the best loaf of fresh bread, packaged, one must poke it to check the crunchy crust -vs- pillowy inner bread ratio. That behavior doesn’t win one fans in a pandemic, rightfully so.

When I retreated to my self-imposed quarantine in late February, Gordmans was a thing. Pier One was a thing. I will leave the quarantine with my favorite stores gone, and possibly some of my favorite restaurants too.

I am just pondering a lot this morning. But THANK YOU to the lovely human who got her vaccine broadcast nationally this morning. It’s a big deal.

I think that was my grateful list for the day.

Godspeed Y’all.
