
I need THIS identified. Whatever was going to emerge from it, I do not want it. Maybe. Found in January in South Dakota. It’s about 3″ long. Big for this area.

I did reach out to another entomologist in South Dakota and at first they thought it was tiny. I responded that this is about three inches long. Still unsure, said it might be a fly. We have flies that large here in South Dakota?
In any case, anyone know what would have emerged from this cocoon?
