I’ve been doing this thing where I have to be one of the first people to order seeds once I receive my Whole Seeds catalog in the mail from Bakers Creek. I spend the previous garden season circling what I like in the catalog and reading review left by other astute gardeners on the website. By the time the catalog arrives, I have made my seed wishlist and checked it fourteen times. I’ve also completed the first draft of my garden, sketched precisely in my graphing notebook designated for gardening. I even drew a cheerful sunshine on the cover, like a nine-year-old might.

This year I noticed, with dismay and poutiness, that other people received their catalogs before I did. Even so, when I entered in my order online, some of the new seeds in the catalog were not yet listed on the website. So I sent an email and behold, the next day all the precious new seeds were available.

And thereby I still feel like I won my dumb little game.
