This Installment of Harvest Notes Covers from June 16-30.
All seeds grown in the high wind prairie, Midwest, in macro-climate zone 5(ish). Average dewpoint in summer is around 60. Soil is a loamy clay. Although my preference is organic, I have used commercial fertilizers from time to time. Growing days are approximately 135.
The last half of June is where I begin to get excited as the tomatoes and peppers are setting fruit, and you know your favorites are a month or so away from being ripe. Yet the garden still provides. Your harvest basket isn’t full, but it’s close. Late June is prime time for peas, another favorite. And spinach and some berries! If you start the plants indoors, you might even have some lovely cherry tomatoes ready by the end of June.
