What is Growing in the Zone Five Garden in Early July?

This Post Shares the Harvest from 1-16 July.

All seeds grown in the high wind prairie, Midwest, in macro-climate zone 5(ish). Average dewpoint in summer is around 60. Soil is a loamy clay. Although my preference is organic, I have used commercial fertilizers from time to time. Growing days are approximately 135.

The early July garden in zone five begins to add yellow to the green harvest basket. Beans, summer squash and peas fill up the bowl this time of year.

6 July 2020 Harvest – photo credit C.Elisabeth at 8th Deadly Sin. In 2020 I started tomatoes inside extra early, February. Combine that with blessings from Mother Nature; I was rewarded with some extra early slicers. IIRC, the large orange tomato is a Chef’s Choice Orange. The smaller red tomatoes are Raspberry Lyanna, which are always early to ripen.

The following items may be ready for harvest July 1-15

  • Peas – snow, snap and garden
  • Spinach
  • Beans – green,yellow and baby chinese
  • Summer squash
  • Tomatoes – cherry, pear and smaller
  • Broccol
  • Raspberries, if conditions favorable
  • Potatoes, baby – if conditions favorable
  • Peppers – pictured are AlbinoMelrose
