Series – Garden Chores – August – Week Three – 2021

  1. Cut and dry sunflower heads.
  2. Identify and allow to remain on the plant seed corn
  3. Weed fence-line, scatter parsnip seeds for next year in select garden
  4. Hunt for standing water and eliminate unless dragonfly larvae confirmed.
  5. Cut plants along fence-line that cross property lines
  6. Last fertilization for winter squash to encourage blooms, as all fruitset must be done by Aug 31st to have a chance at edibility come hard frost.
  7. Check grapes for readiness to harvest. Noticed new grape set. Two rounds, same as last year on the Red Swenson vine.
  8. Lay more sod harvested from new converted yard. Use to prep new garden area that will be made via the lasagna garden method.
  9. Cut all spent blooms on the roses to encourage another round of blooms. Fertilized with high P K fertilizer.
  10. Weed the front garden
  11. Inventory dahlias, give any plants without buds a hit of high P fertilizer.
  12. Retrain the squash vines.
  13. First Harvest from Hugel bed
